Tekelec’s 1st-Quarter Earnings Down From ’89

Tekelec, a Calabasas producer of telecommunications testing equipment, said its first-quarter earnings slipped 4% from a year earlier despite a 6% increase in revenue.
In the quarter that ended March 31, Tekelec’s net income fell to $1.19 million from $1.24 million a year ago, while its revenue climbed to $9.64 million from $9.12 million.
Tekelec blamed the lower earnings on higher costs for engineering, sales and customer service that were required to accommodate Tekelec’s increased revenue.
