HORSE RACING ROUNDUP : McCarron, Opening Verse Win Oaklawn Handicap

At Oaklawn: Jockey Chris McCarron guided Opening Verse through a narrow hole heading into the far turn and the 4-year-old colt shifted into another gear in the stretch to score a 2 1/4-length victory over longshot De Roche Saturday in the $500,000 Oaklawn Handicap at Oaklawn Park.
The favorite in the field of eight older horses, Opening Verse returned $4 after covering 1 1/8 miles in 1:47 1/5.
At Pimlico: Jet Stream circled the field rounding the final turn and romped to a 4 3/4-length victory over 46-1 shot Flaming Emperor in the $150,000 John B. Campbell Handicap at 1 1/8 miles.
At Aqueduct: Mr. Nickerson, ridden by Chris Antley, led all the way for a 3 1/4-length victory in the $110,400 Bold Ruler Stakes. The winner covered six furlongs in 1:09 1/5 and returned $3.80.
At Gulfstream: My Big Boy, winless in 1989 and out of the money in three starts this year, outfinished Marksmanship to win the $300,000 Pan American Handicap on the turf by 2 1/4 lengths.
