Residents Grapple With the Drought

Your article identifying the city and county departments as the largest users and wasters of water (Part A, April 7) overlooked at least one source of waste: Failure to repair leaks in the city’s water system.
Five months ago I phoned the Department of Water & Power in Van Nuys to alert them to a leak in a water main on Calvert Road in Woodland Hills. The person taking my call was already familiar with the leak. “Several people have reported it.” I asked when they would be able to repair it. “As soon as we have a chance.”
I’ve called several times since. There are now three leaks where once there was one. The pavement around the original leak has begun to deteriorate. Perhaps in a few months we can have our own water slide.
