COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Garcia Gets Three Hits to Lead Chapman to 7-2 Victory

Jody Garcia had three hits, including a double and a triple, scored twice and drove in a run to lead Chapman College to a 7-2 victory over Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in a California Collegiate Athletic Assn. baseball game Thursday at San Luis Obispo.
Chapman’s Pete Coleman (6-4) pitched a complete game, but allowed 13 hits and three runs. He struck out eight and walked one. Mike Guiseffi had two hits including a triple and one RBI in for Chapman, which improved to 10-5 in conference.
Drew Herron hit a solo home run in the ninth inning for San Luis Obispo (16-20, 8-8).
In nonconference baseball:
Cal State Fullerton 9, Cal State Los Angeles 6--Rich Gonzales had four hits, including a three-run double in Cal State Fullerton’s five-run fifth inning which broke a 3-3 tie. Phil Nevin had three hits, including an RBI triple in the third inning and a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth, and scored three runs. James Popoff (5-3) pitched 8 1/3 innings and struck out eight for the victory and Chris Robinson relieved for his second save.
Fullerton (18-14) scored three runs in the third inning to tie the score. Cal State Los Angeles is 14-22.
In nonconference softball:
Southern California College 4-3, Cal State San Bernardino 3-12--Tracey Schofield doubled and had two RBIs to lead Southern California College (14-20) in the first game. Stephanie Cardardano had three hits and scored twice for Cal State San Bernardino (17-7).
Christ College Irvine 2-2, Pacific Christian College 1-3--Christ College Irvine’s Michelle Vail (9-8) gave up four hits in five innings for the victory in the first game. In the second game, Sara LeDonne gave up seven hits in a complete-game victory for Pacific Christian College. Christ College Irvine is 20-15 and Pacific Christian is 11-13.
