SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : Work to Clear Slide on Highway Pushed
- Share via
A mudslide blocking the Riverside County portion of Ortega Highway created a minimum 30-minute delay throughout Thursday for commuters on the 27-mile mountain road linking Lake Elsinore with San Juan Capistrano.
The California Highway Patrol said both lanes could be reopened by late Thursday night, depending on the operation to remove the fallen dirt and shore up the roadside bluff. Until then, 30-minute waits were expected while the CHP directed vehicles through one open lane.
The mudslide occurred at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and originally blocked both lanes of the narrow road in an area about five miles east of Lake Elsinore, near the Roadhouse restaurant.
