A jogger in her 50s was raped Thursday morning near an open field in the Rancho Penasquitos area, police said.
The woman was at Innovation Drive and Rancho Carmel Road when a man attacked her at 5:30 a.m., said police spokesman Bill Robinson.
The rapist is described as white, from 25 to 35 years old, 5 feet, 10 inches tall, with a medium build. He was wearing a dark jogging suit.
On Tuesday about 7:30 p.m., in what police suspect is a related case, an attempted rape took place about a mile south of the area in the 12000 block of Evening Creek Drive, east of Interstate 15.
Robinson asked for anyone with information to call the sex-crime unit at 531-2325.
