ICN Biomedicals Inc. The Costa Mesa-based maker of medical instruments and test kits said net income for the first quarter reached a record $1.9 million, compared to $942,000 reported for the comparable period last year. Sales for the quarter ended Feb. 28 rose to nearly $33 million from $12.9 million. The company said the gains in revenue and earnings for the first quarter were attributable to continued strength of its base business as well as the consolidation into its operations of Flow Laboratories, which it acquired in November.
