The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department search-and-rescue team rescued a Chatsworth man from a canyon east of Simi Valley early Tuesday after he fell off a cliff during a midnight stroll.
An emergency crew of Ventura County firefighters and sheriff’s deputies scrambled over rugged terrain to rescue Robert Donald Ray, 24, after he tumbled about 18 feet, sheriff’s Lt. Arv Wells said.
Ray and three friends had been walking in the Santa Susana foothills south of Lilac Lane, Wells said.
Rescuers and a Los Angeles police helicopter got Ray out of the area, Wells said. Ray was airlifted to Northridge Hospital Medical Center where he was reported in stable condition with a concussion and bruises.
