Linda Vista Elementary School in San Diego will receive $550,555 as one of 15 schools in eight states awarded major grants by the RJR Nabisco Foundation to help improve education in America.
The San Diego school board invited Linda Vista teachers to make a presentation to trustees later this month on their plans to spend the money, which is the largest private grant to a single school in the district’s history.
Linda Vista, with a heavily Indochinese and Latino student population, has implemented its own academic program that emphasizes English language study and native-language instruction in basic subjects in the morning, followed by afternoon enrichment in art or music.
