Gill-Netting Foe

I am amazed at the amount of public concern generated by the recent oil spill, which will have far less impact on our ocean resources in a lifetime than the gill-netting industry inflicts each month.
While I certainly deplore oil spills, I think it is shameful for so much public outcry and political hay-making to be generated over a problem that is, in the long term, negligible, while there is little or no media coverage of the resources squandered through gill-netting.
Perhaps it is just easier to photograph the occasional rescue of an oily bird than the daily underwater carnage attributable to gill-netters.
