Bob Saget Gets High Ratings, Scores Low in Recognition

Millions of television viewers see actor Bob Saget each week, but his name has yet to become a household word.
He plays the widowed father Danny Tanner on the ABC-TV comedy “Full House,” and he’s hosting and co-writing one of the hottest new shows on the tube, ABC’s “America’s Funniest Home Videos.”
“Kinda frightening, isn’t it? I mean, people still don’t know my name, but now they’ll look at me in a restaurant, point and say, ‘That’s the guy.’ I guess that’s flattering, but I’m not sure,” Saget said in a recent interview.
As the host of the blockbuster show, Saget is a hot Hollywood commodity. He’ll be a presenter on the American Comedy Awards and People’s Choice Awards telecasts, and he’s writing, performing and directing a one-man “On Location” comedy special for HBO.
The hilarity of everyday events is the secret to the success of “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” he said.
“I just think the videos are so pure, and some of them are so gut-wrenchingly funny that it just works. Slapstick is funny,” Saget said
