U.S. Won’t Join Suit Against Hughes: The Justice Department said it has decided not to join a $9.6-billion whistle-blower lawsuit filed by a former Hughes Aircraft Co. engineer against the giant defense contractor. The suit accused Hughes’ Ground Systems Group of covering up flaws in 4.75 million microchips installed in key defense systems since 1984. A lawyer for plaintiff Michael C. Denlinger said his client plans to move ahead on the case without the government’s help.
