Awould-be burglar was shot and killed Saturday night as he tried to break into a Van Nuys house, authorities said Sunday.
Two armed men tried to enter the house in the 15500 block of Friar Street about 9:30 p.m. when they were surprised by an unarmed resident. The resident apparently disarmed one of the men and shot him, said Officer Mike Schwehr of the Los Angeles Police Department.
Dane Roberts, 28, of Inglewood died from a gunshot wound to the head, said Claude Boucher, a Los Angeles County coroner’s spokesman.
Sgt. Ted Hanson said a single shot was fired. The second man fled and had not been arrested by late Sunday, Schwehr said.
The resident will not face charges, police said.
