Laura Scudder, founder and matriarch of the potato chip company that now bears her name, started it all 61 years ago in a brick building near her family’s gas station at the corner of Atlantic Boulevard and Garvey Avenue in Monterey Park. Her fame may soon be etched in bronze. Last week the City Council approved in concept a proposal to install commemorative plaques at the gas station and the original potato chip plant.
