Long Beach : Mayor Points to Drugs as Major Problem in City
- Share via
Long Beach Mayor Ernie Kell singled out drugs as one of the city’s major problems in his annual State of the City address, but he did not propose any new efforts to combat drug abuse and drug-related crime.
Instead, Kell catalogued a variety of drug and gang programs already in existence, ranging from drug education efforts in local schools to gang diversion programs.
In remarks to the City Council on Tuesday, Kell also said he will endorse a proposed state alcohol initiative that would raise $800 million in new alcohol taxes for substance abuse programs and emergency and trauma care services.
