For the first time in nine seasons, Georgia Tech basketball Coach Bobby Cremins won’t be guiding his Yellow Jackets from the sidelines when they meet Pittsburgh tonight.

Hours after guiding his team’s 98-76 victory over Morehead State in the Kuppenheimer Classic, Cremins learned that his father, Robert Cremins Sr., 84, died of cancer Wednesday night in New York.

Cremins held a team meeting early today and told his players of his father’s death and his plans to go to New York. He said Associate Head Coach Kevin Cantwell and Assistant Coach Sherman Dillard would take over coaching duties against Pittsburgh.

“I really wish I could be with the team, but at this moment I really want to go to New York and be with my family to bury our father,†Cremins said.
