HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Fallbrook Escapes With 2-Point Victory Over No. 1 El Camino

Chris Miller scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Fallbrook boys’ basketball team to a 51-49 upset of top-ranked El Camino Saturday in the Lt. Mitchell Tournament.

El Camino, which returned five of its top six players from last season, was led by 6-foot-2 point guard Travis Gilley, who scored 17 points. Forward Shaun Scurry added 13.

El Camino had a chance to tie it in the final seconds, but Scurry drove the baseline and stepped out of bounds, turning the ball over with three seconds remaining.

Fallbrook is 6-1, El Camino 4-3.

In other Lt. Mitchell Tournament games:

San Clemente 57, Escondido 47--Eddie Morgan scored a game-high 26 points to lead San Clemente. Pat Chavez led Escondido with 17. San Clemente outscored Escondido 13-7 in the second quarter and 19-12 in the third.

El Modena 78, Rancho Buena Vista 63--Aaron Gottlieb scored 25 points to lead El Modena. Jeff Leedom added 22. Darrell Parker had 25 for RBV, which allowed El Modena to pull away with 33 fourth-quarter points.

San Marcos 74, Orange Glen 58--Pat Griffith scored a game-high 28 points to lead San Marcos. Aaron Adams had 20 for Orange Glen, which led, 14-13, after the first quarter but was outscored, 21-13, in the second.

San Dieguito 64, Valencia 50--San Dieguito’s Sean Howard scored eight of his game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter after pulling down offensive rebounds to help ice the game. Teammate Brian Malewics scored 18 in the first three quarters (he fouled out in the first minute of the fourth), and Matt De la Pena hit three three-pointers that accounted for nearly half his total of 19 points.

Newport Harbor 80, Vista 79--Guard Paige Parish scored 18 to lead Newport Harbor (5-2). Eddie Martinez and Craig Debusk added 15. Choo Choo Walker led Vista with 25. Vista (2-2) had a chance to tie it with four seconds remaining, but Nils Michals missed the second half a one-and-one and time ran out.

Torrey Pines 82, Trabuco Hills 60--Bart Brandenburg scored 21 points, including 12 of 12 free throws in the second half, to lead Torrey Pines. Torrey Pines, down by five at the end of the first quarter, also got 14 points from Craig Brown and 13 apiece from Carter Brown and Kyle Armstrong. Chris Stevens led all rebounders with 13. Guard Randy Kriech led Trabuco Hills with 21.
