Grandmother Held in Death of 4-Year-Old

The grandmother of a 4-year old Lakewood boy was jailed for investigation of murder Monday after the boy died at a hospital after an apparent beating, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies reported.
Theda Demon Rice, 54, who was the legal guardian of her daughter’s son, Daniel Hillman, had called paramedics to her home in the 11400 block of East 215th Street. Deputies disclosed no motive for the apparent beating, but said it was decided to jail Rice after interviewing her and examining physical evidence.
