Unbeaten Dameworth Featured in Regional
Having won his third consecutive state Division I cross-country championship last week, Bryan Dameworth of Agoura High will return to Fresno’s Woodward Park today for the Kinney West regional.
Dameworth, undefeated this season, will be gunning for his first West regional title after finishing eighth as a freshman in 1986 and second last year.
The top eight finishers in each of the boys’ and girls’ races will qualify for next Saturday’s national championships in San Diego.
Other top local entries include Abe Valdez of Camarillo and Canyon teammates Dan Berkeland and Dave Hartman. That trio finished fourth, fifth and sixth in the state Division I race.
Agoura junior Deena Drossin will attempt to improve on her fifth-place performance of last year in the girls’ race.
The girls’ race starts at 12:15 p.m., followed by the boys’ race at 1 p.m.
