380 Mexican Animal, Plant Species in Danger

MEXICO CITY — More than 380 animal species and 580 plants are on the verge of extinction in Mexico because of pollution, the government newspaper El Nacional reported Thursday.
Agriculture Department engineer Enrique Mejia Maravillas said the animal and plant life is endangered by 5 million tons of air pollutants and 52,000 tons of solid wastes that are pumped into the environment annually.
