California IN BRIEF : TWENTYNINE PALMS : Marine Unhurt as Jet Crashes in Desert

A Marine jet on a training exercise crashed Friday in a remote area of the Southern California desert, but the pilot ejected safely, military officials said. The crash of the A-4M Skyhawk occurred at 10:20 a.m. at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, a sprawling base in Twentynine Palms. The cause of the crash was under investigation. The pilot, whose identity was withheld, was examined at a base hospital as a precaution.
