Louisiana Ousts Train Carrying Human Waste
BATON ROUGE, La. — A 63-car train loaded with concentrated human waste from Baltimore will leave Louisiana without unloading, a state official said Wednesday.
The train has been on a sidetrack for several days in the coastal lowlands community of Schriever as local officials and the company holding a disposal contract, GSX Land Treatment Inc., tried to work out a compromise.
“The word we have is that it will be heading out of Louisiana as soon as the railroad can get a schedule together,†said Tim Hardy, assistant secretary of the state Department of Environmental Quality. He said he did not know where the train was headed.
