Fountain Valley Wins Sunset Volleyball Title Fountain Valley High School clinched the Sunset League volleyball title with a 15-5, 15-4, 15-4 sweep over Marina Tuesday at Fountain Valley.
Tiffany Morenc had 11 kills for Fountain Valley (13-2 overall and 9-0 in league matches).
In Century League volleyball:
El Modena 3, Villa Park 1--Marni Hichborn had 22 kills for host El Modena (14-1, 8-1) in a 15-11, 12-15, 15-10, 15-7 victory.
In Empire League volleyball:
Los Alamitos 3, El Dorado 0--Cara Dane’s 28 kills and eight aces helped Los Alamitos to a 15-5, 15-10, 15-6 sweep. Los Alamitos is 11-6, 6-3.
In Angelus League volleyball:
Mater Dei 3, St. Paul 0--Mary Eberhart had 10 kills and setter Tracy Rice had 16 assists as Mater Dei (9-4, 7-2) won, 15-1, 15-7, 15-9 at home.
In Orange League volleyball:
Anaheim 3, Savanna 1--Host Anaheim (6-3 in league play) clinched third place and a playoff spot with a 13-15, 15-7, 15-4, 15-3 victory.
In South Coast League volleyball:
El Toro 3, San Clemente 0--Marta Bickert had 14 kills to lead the Chargers, 15-4, 15-7, 15-7, at San Clemente. El Toro (11-3, 7-2) clinched second place in the league.
In Sea View League tennis:
Corona del Mar 13, Saddleback 5--Caren Manchester and Michelle McFarland won, 6-2, 6-3, 6-0, in doubles for host Corona del Mar (9-0 in league play).
Estancia 15, Newport Harbor 3--Dana Birch won, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, and the Eagles’ doubles teams swept at Newport Harbor. Estancia is 14-5, 7-2.
In Sunset League tennis:
Edison 15, Ocean View 3--Host Edison won its last league match of the season as the No. 1 doubles team of Nikki Turner and Laura Olson won, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0. The Chargers are 16-3, 9-1.
In Del Rey League water polo:
Mater Dei 11, St. John Bosco 10 (OT)--Jeff Campbell scored in sudden death for visiting Mater Dei (16-7, 7-3).
