Senate today approved legislation providing money to pay $20,000 to each surviving Japanese-American interned during World War II, sending the measure back to the House.

The funds were contained in a $17.2-billion measure for the Commerce, Justice and State departments for the fiscal year that began Oct. 1.

In two days of debate, the Senate made three minor changes that necessitated the measure be returned to the House. The changes did not involve the payments to the Japanese-Americans.
