Arts and entertainment reports from The Times, national and international news services and the nation's press
The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra will be going to Israel next April for the first time. The scheduled tour follows the death this year of the orchestra’s longtime conductor Herbert von Karajan, who was barred by Israel because of his former links to Nazism. The orchestra will give three concerts on its own and do a joint benefit performance with the Israel Philharmonic.
