UC San Diego Ends With Scoreless Tie

UC San Diego put 20 shots on goal but just couldn’t score, even in overtime, playing to a scoreless tie with UC Irvine in women’s soccer at UCSD North Campus Stadium Monday. It was UCSD’s 16th shutout, finishing its regular season at 15-1-1. Alicia Miller made 19 saves for UC Irvine. UC Irvine took only four shots on goal.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Point Loma Nazarene College women’s volleyball team will play Biola tonight in its first postseason game since 1984. The Crusaders, led by Lynette Campbell and Janelle Dutton, compiled a 14-8 record, also their best since 1984.

During the regular season the Crusaders and Biola split their two matches.

The winner of tonight’s match will advance to the semifinals Friday at Cal Baptist.

MEN’S SOCCER

UC San Diego received an NCAA Division III playoff berth and will play at Claremont College Sunday at 1 p.m. in the first round of the West Regional.

The No. 17 Tritons (12-5-3) suffered a 2-1 loss to No. 5 Claremont (17-1-1) during the regular season. St. John’s (Minn.) plays at Colorado College in the other regional match. The winners play the following week at a site to be determined.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

High Five America, a team of former college and professional players, fighting against the abuses of drugs and alcohol, plays Southern California Wednesday night at 7:30 at Poway High.

High Five, in its first year of existence, defeated Christian Heritage, 102-81, Friday night in its opener. Based in San Diego, High Five is coached by Rle Nichols, who coached with Athletes in Action for 14 years.
