NATION IN BRIEF : ILLINOIS : Halt in United 232 Engine Test Rejected
A federal judge in Chicago refused to halt testing of an engine from United Airlines Flight 232 and said there is no reason that people suing the airline and the makers of the plane should be on hand to observe the tests. The order was sought by lawyers who have filed suits on behalf of many of the 184 survivors and the families of the victims of the July 19 crash in Sioux City, Iowa. U.S. District Judge Hubert Will’s decision allows the National Transportation Safety Board to proceed with tests at a General Electric Co. plant in Evendale, Ohio.
