WORLD IN BRIEF : HUNGARY : Parliament OKs Limited Amnesty

The Hungarian Parliament approved legislation granting amnesty to many people convicted of crimes punishable by less than three years in prison. The amnesty law, due to go into effect in November, applies to pregnant women, women with children under 14 living with them, women over 55 and men over 60 and those suffering from terminal illness. The terms are halved for those in these categories serving sentences exceeding three years.
