A Pasadena fourth-grader and an Eagle Rock sixth-grader won in their age groups in the Plaza Pasadena’s spelling bee last week.
Liza Anulao, 11, a sixth-grader at St. Dominic’s School in Eagle Rock won the fifth- and sixth-grade competition.
Kristina E. VanDusen, 8, a pupil at Longfellow Elementary School, won the third- and fourth-grade spelling bee with the word “chocolate.”
Two years ago, Kristina won the first- and second-grade competition, and last year she won second place in the third- and fourth-grade competition, her father said.
More than 200 students from elementary schools in the San Gabriel Valley participated in the three-day event. Winners in the first- and second-grade competition were announced last week.
Each first-place winner received a trophy, certificate and an encyclopedic dictionary set. The spelling bee was sponsored by Encyclopaedia Britannica and Plaza Pasadena.
