La Mesa Man Shot to Death
Authorities on Saturday were investigating a fatal shooting outside an apartment complex in La Mesa.
The body of a man in his mid-20s was discovered about 10:50 a.m. in a parking lot in the 7500 block of Parkway Drive, police said. Authorities late Saturday had not released the identity of the victim, who had been shot once in the chest. A loaded .38 caliber handgun was found adjacent to the body.
Authorities speculate that the shooting might have been the result of a botched break-in attempt. Detectives reportedly followed a trail of blood from the body to a nearby apartment window. The screen had been removed.
“There was evidence that somebody had been trying to pry in the window,†said La Mesa police Lt. Bobby Barrett. Detectives late Saturday were interviewing residents of the apartment.
