Westlake 7, Camarillo 3--Luke Crawford blocked a punt at the Camarillo 35-yard line, then five plays later ran four yards for a first-quarter touchdown to give visiting Westlake all the points it needed to secure Coach Jim Benkert’s first victory.

Crawford, who led Westlake (1-3, 1-0) in rushing with 61 yards in 17 carries, also recovered Camarillo tailback Brian Vellmure’s fumble at the Camarillo 45-yard line in the third quarter.

Vellmure intercepted a pass by Westlake quarterback Todd Preston and returned it 30 yards to the Warrior 30-yard line to help the Scorpions get on the scoreboard in the second quarter. After Camarillo moved 16 yards, McLane Hansen kicked a 31-yard field goal.

Vellmure, Camarillo’s leading rusher, gained 54 yards in 17 carries but left the game midway through the third quarter because of an ankle injury and did not return.
