Fall Sports Roundup : Occidental Sweeps Past Winless Cal Lutheran in Volleyball

A tough season doesn’t look to be getting any easier for the winless Cal Lutheran women’s volleyball team, which lost to Occidental, 15-1, 15-7, 15-3, Friday in a nonconference match at Occidental.

Senior outside hitter Jenifer Larson led the Regals (0-11) with six kills and three solo blocks. Freshman setter Debbie Wolfe had eight assists, one dig and a service ace. Senior outside hitter Brenda Lee recorded three solo blocks.

Norienne Fauth (six kills) and Heather Beach (five kills) paced Occidental (2-2).

In another women’s volleyball match:

Pierce d. Bakersfield, 15-6, 15-6, 15-6--Alissa Levisohn had nine kills to lead the Brahmas (6-0, 5-0 in conference play) to a Western State Conference win at Bakersfield.

WATER POLO

UC Riverside 12, Occidental 3--The Highlanders scored four goals in the first and fourth quarters in a Western Water Polo Assn. match at Sippy Woodhead Pool in Riverside.

Greg Hester had five goals for UC Riverside (8-6, 6-0) and Rick Delmonico added two. Greg Larson scored twice for Occidental.

WRESTLING

Moorpark 35, El Camino 9--Moorpark dominated in its season opener as Pete Lutz pinned Jerry Decker at 4 minutes, 28 seconds of the 158-pound match. Moorpark’s Bill Scannell bested Craig Nelson, 19-3, with a technical fall at 126 pounds and Serge Mezheritsky won a major decision, 18-5, against James Lopez at 150.
