Joao Soares, the son of Portugal’s president, was seriously injured in a plane crash near a guerrilla base in southeastern Angola, officials in South Africa said. The four others on the plane, including two members of the Portuguese Parliament, suffered less severe injuries. All were taken to a hospital in Pretoria. The accident occurred when one engine of the small Cessna aircraft failed during takeoff from the airstrip at Jamba, headquarters of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola.
