SIDELINES : U.S. Faces S. Korea First in Dunhill

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland — The top-seeded U.S. team today drew South Korea for a first-round opponent in the 16-nation Dunhill Cup golf tournament.
The American team--U.S. Open champion Curtis Strange, British Open title-holder Mark Calcavecchia and Tom Kite--was named top seed on the basis of the overall standing of its players in a world ranking system.
The other first-round pairings for the tournament that starts Thursday on the Old Course: No. 2 seed Australia, with Greg Norman, vs. France; No. 3 Scotland vs. New Zealand; No. 4 Spain (without Seve Ballesteros) vs. Sweden; No. 5 Ireland, the defending title-holder, vs. Taiwan; No. 6 England vs. Canada; No. 7 Japan vs. Italy and No. 8 Wales vs. Argentina.
The United States has yet to win in four previous Dunhill Cup matches, played in a medal-match play format.
