Garden Grove Wastes No Time in 34-21 Victory

Garden Grove High School came out firing Friday night at Orange Coast College, building a 20-point lead in the first six minutes en route to a 34-21 nonleague victory over Costa Mesa.
Junior quarterback Bob Ioja hit senior All-Garden Grove League flanker Joe Squyers on a 58-yard touchdown pass on the first play from scrimmage. Ioja and Squyers connected again with a five-yard touchdown pass with 8:07 left in the first quarter. The scoring drive was set up when Alex Ripley of Garden Grove (2-1) recovered a fumble on Costa Mesa’s second offensive play of the game.
After a Costa Mesa punt, Ioja and Squyers hooked up again for a 43-yard touchdown.
Fullback Tony Hoover gained 125 yards in 22 carries for Costa Mesa (0-3). Mike Webster added 105 yards in 13 carries.
