Man Shot at Universal City Movie Theater After Dispute
A moviegoer was shot outside a Universal City theater after an argument in which witnesses heard gang names uttered, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said Saturday.
The incident began outside the Cineplex Odeon at Universal Studios about 11:20 p.m. Friday, said Sgt. Steve Dolan of the West Hollywood sheriff’s station.
David Harvey, 19, of Los Angeles was apparently leaving the show with family members when he and another man began arguing.
Witnesses told deputies that they heard Harvey and the other man mention the Crips street gang as they argued, Dolan said.
When the pair reached the theater’s parking structure, the man pulled a gun and shot Harvey in the torso, Dolan said.
Harvey was taken to Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills where Dolan said he was in good condition.
Harvey denied being associated with a gang, and he and his family have been uncooperative with investigators, Dolan said.
No arrests have been made.
