Problems With Dialing 911

The opinion of Sheila Kuehl (Op-Ed Aug. 31, “911 Must Bring Protection”) on the tragic death of Maria Navarro smacks of mindless police-bashing and an overall myopic view of crime in this city.
I would suggest she listen to a police scanner or make an appointment to visit a dispatcher’s center to see just how attentively law enforcement is scrambling 24 hours a day to protect. I doubt she would then question their “commitment.”
More police? There’s no end to that trend of thought, until there’s a policeman for every man, woman and child in this city.
Rather--more laws. Perhaps ones that make threats of violence illegal. Perhaps ones that ensure that persons are actually incarcerated for their crimes rather than allowed to plea bargain, walk the streets and renew their vendettas.
