Santa Monica : Professor on State Board
Karen Sue Grosz, an English professor at Santa Monica College, has been named to the California Community Colleges Board of Governors by Gov. George Deukmejian.
Grosz, who has been on the college faculty since 1971, will take her seat on the 15-member board at its Sept. 14-15 meeting in Sacramento. The board sets policy and provides guidance for 71 community college districts with 107 campuses throughout the state. Grosz’s term expires in 1991.
“I’m absolutely thrilled with the appointment, and I’m looking forward to being able to participate in policy-making at the state level,†Grosz said.
She said her special concerns include improving the academic quality of the community colleges, improving transfer agreements with the University of California and California State University, and implementing community college reforms legislated last year in Sacramento.
Grosz, who lives in West Los Angeles, recently served as president of the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges. She is also on the governing board of the Faculty Assn. of the California Community Colleges.
