Toshiba, IBM Venture Set: Toshiba Corp. and IBM Japan Co. announced that they will launch a 50-50 joint venture in November to manufacture large-sized, high resolution color liquid crystal displays, or LCDs, mainly for use with computers. The two companies said the new firm, Display Technologies Inc., will initially be capitalized at $143 million and be headquartered at Toshiba’s factory in Himeji, 375 miles southwest of Tokyo. The factory, due to start operations in April, 1991, will manufacture 10-inch, high-resolution color LCD’s using thin-film transistor technology jointly developed by the two companies.
