Explosives Plant Blast Kills 2 Workers; 5 Hurt

JOPLIN, Mo. — A blast at a commercial explosives plant Friday killed two workers and injured five, officials said.
The explosion occurred about 4:40 p.m. when the employees were pouring molten primer into a mold. The solidified primer is used to ignite blasting agents, said Peter Astrauskas, technical director of the Atlas Powder Co. The plant is about five miles east of Joplin.
