Japanese Prime Minister Toshiki Kaifu held his first Cabinet meeting and promised political and tax reforms to win back support for his Liberal Democratic Party. Speaking to reporters before a brief induction ceremony before Emperor Akihito, his said he wants it to be known as “the Cabinet of dialogue and reform.” News reports said Kaifu plans to visit Washington in September, but his foreign minister said a U.S. visit has not been decided upon.
