An investigation into Howard University’s football program from 1983 to ’88 has uncovered violations of both National Collegiate Athletic Assn. and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference rules, said Carl Anderson, the university’s vice president for student affairs.
The inquiry, began in March, prompted by the discovery that nine of the team’s starters played after their eligibility had expired.
Anderson said the alleged violations, if proven, could cost the school its 1987 conference championship. An internal investigation of the program also revealed irregularities in the financial aid program.
