Carriages to Run in Cross-Country Contest
- Share via
More than 20 carriage drivers will show their skills in a Heels and Wheels Driving Club cross-country competition Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. on the Palos Verdes Landfill between Hawthorne and Crenshaw boulevards in Rolling Hills Estates. It is free.
Various obstacles--including bales of hay and a cardboard cow that tends to frighten horses--will be set up. Carriage drivers will be timed and judged on driving skills as they maneuver around them. The day also will include a carriage parade paralleling Palos Verdes Drive North from the Palos Verdes Estates city limit to Rolling Hills Estates City Hall.
According to the club, the best viewing area may be reached by parking at City Hall, at Palos Verdes Drive North and Crenshaw Boulevard, and walking through Chandler Park to the south side of the landfill.
The event allows drivers to sharpen their skills for the California Classic carriage competition Oct. 14 through 16 at Los Angeles County Fairplex in Pomona.
