Five Florida State football recruits and two basketball prospects will not be eligible as freshman under the NCAA’s minimum entrance requirements, but football Coach Bobby Bowden said he expects the players to enroll.
At least two of the prospective players would have to pay their own way. In that case, they would retain four years of eligibility.
Running back Dominque Ross of Jacksonville, Fla.; linebacker Eric Shaw of Pensacola, Fla.; running back Efferin Macon of Gadsden, Ala.; linebacker John Nance of Bartow, FLa., and wide receiver Eric Turral of Tallahassee, Fla., did not achieve scores of 700 on their SAT exams.
Two basketball recruits, Douglas Edwards and Malcolm Nicholas of Miami, also failed to achieve the minimum test score and will sit out their first season.
