2 Area Sailors in World Youth Championships
Ryan Cox and K. C. Alfred of Thousand Oaks will set sail Tuesday in Montreal as the U. S. Youth Sailing team competes in the International Yacht Racing Union World Youth Sailing Championships .
Cox, a 1989 graduate of Westlake High, and Alfred, who will be a senior at Westlake this fall, qualified for the team by winning the double-handed Collegiate 420 class title in the U. S. Youth Championships, June 30 in Hyannisport, Mass.
Cox and Alfred, representing the Ventura Yacht Club, rallied from second place in the points standings to win the championship in the final two days of competition.
Their performance at the Hyannis Yacht Club also qualified them as members of the U. S. Yacht Racing Union/Rolex Junior Sailing Team.
