Three firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling a brush fire that burned 26 acres Wednesday near Lake Sherwood in Ventura County, the Ventura County Fire Department reported.
One firefighter suffered a broken ankle, and two others were treated at Westlake Community Hospital for heat exhaustion, said Ventura County Fire Department dispatcher Cece Grives. The fire damaged no structures and was contained by evening, fire officials said.
The injured firefighters were among more than 70 from Los Angeles County and about 80 from Ventura County who battled the blaze, which started about 2:30 p.m. near a picnic area south of Lake Sherwood, Grives said.
