Local : Santa Ana Pedestrian Severely Hurt
A pregnant 30-year-old Santa Ana woman was critically injured and lost her fetus when she was hit by a speeding drunk driver fleeing an earlier traffic accident late Sunday night, police said today.
The pedestrian, whose identity was not disclosed, is in “very critical condition with multiple broken bones,†said Hong Nguyen, nursing supervisor at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center. The fetus was stillborn after an emergency Cesarean section early this morning.
Felipe Garcia, 20, of Santa Ana, who was allegedly fleeing an earlier noninjury accident at West 1st and Euclid streets, was chased and captured by Santa Ana police officers who said they saw the vehicle strike the woman in the 4000 block of West 1st.
Officers who arrested Garcia said he “was extremely drunk,†Santa Ana police spokesman Cliff Seward said. Garcia was booked at the Orange County Jail for hit-and-run and driving while under the influence.
