Hasty Pasty took the lead from Kurbstone in the final yards and won by a neck Saturday in Hollywood Park’s $114,600 Valkyr Handicap for older fillies and mares foaled in California.

Hasty Pasty extended her winning streak to three races, and jockey Chris McCarron moved within 20 victories of 5,000 in his career. It was the fourth stakes win at Hollywood Park in the past three weeks for trainer Wayne Lukas, one more than he had at the track in 1988.

The 4-year-old daughter of Flying Paster covered six furlongs on the turf in 1:08 2/5.

Kurbstone and Bif broke away shortly after the start, and Kurbstone led by two lengths entering the stretch. Hasty Pasty, slightly more than three lengths back in fourth with a half-mile left, accelerated on the turn and just got up in the closing strides.

Hasty Pasty, third betting choice of the crowd of 24,612, returned $13.20, $7 and $4.60. The victory was worth $69,600 to her owners, Aaron and Candy Spelling.

Kurbstone, with Tom Chapman aboard, paid $11.40 and $6. Silent Arrival, with Gary Stevens up, was another head back and returned $4.80.

McCarron helped organize the Jockeys Across America Day, which benefited the Don MacBeth Memorial Jockey Fund, named in memory of the veteran jockey who died of cancer in 1987. Jockeys at 44 racetracks were asked to donate the fee from one mount.
