Grass Fire Burns Near Costa Mesa Condos
A small grass fire briefly threatened a nine-unit condominium complex Friday night in Costa Mesa before firefighters extinguished the blaze in the 2100 block Pacific Avenue, authorities said.
Residents in the area reported hearing fireworks going off about the time the blaze broke out about 9:15 p.m in a stand of bamboo trees on a slope behind the Pacific View condominiums, according to Collen Bell, a resident of the complex, which overlooks the Santa Ana River.
“Within a couple of minutes, it was at our back fences,†Bell said. “It charred one balcony and a roof, but that’s all. It scared me to death. But we’re OK.
“We’re sipping a little champagne right now.â€
