Henry Hearns, youngest brother of boxer Thomas Hearns, was ordered today to stand trial on a first-degree murder charge in the shooting death of his girlfriend, officials said.

Hearns was bound over to Oakland County Circuit Court after a preliminary examination by Southfield District Judge Stephen Cooper, said Lynn Schmidt, Cooper’s secretary.

Cooper denied a motion for bond by defense attorney Neil Fink, and Hearns was returned to the Oakland County Jail. An arraignment was scheduled July 18.

Hearns, 22, is charged with first-degree murder in the June 10 slaying of Nancy Barile, 19, at a home owned by the fighter, who was in Las Vegas preparing for a rematch with Sugar Ray Leonard when the shooting occurred. The charge carries a life prison sentence on conviction.
